Answers to the most common questions

If you have any other questions, you are of course very welcome to contact us.

If you don’t have any previous climbing experience, we’re happy to help you get started!
The easiest way to begin is to book a Try Climbing session, which is a one-time activity where an instructor assists you with safety.

If you instead want to learn how everything works, you can take a course for a certification card. To climb independently on the high rope walls at Klätterverket, you need one of the following:

  1. Yellow card – To climb on our auto-belays.
  2. Green card – To belay other climbers on top rope.
  3. Red card – For lead climbing and lead belaying other climbers.

You can also come and boulder. Bouldering is a form of climbing where you climb on lower walls without ropes. The walls are up to 4.5 meters high and have thick crash mats underneath. No certification card is required for bouldering, but it is important that you read through our safety and house rules.

Children under the age of 13 must, however, be accompanied by a guardian with at least a yellow card to be allowed in the bouldering area.

For a one-time experience, the best option is to book a Try Climbing session. We have fixed time slots every weekend.

If you want to learn how to belay your child yourself, you can also book a Family Course. During the family course, an instructor teaches the adults (those aged 15 and above) about safety, equipment, and techniques while the children climb. After the course, the adult participants have sufficient knowledge to complete a test climb for the green card.

If your child becomes really interested in climbing, you can also sign up for the Climbing Academy (Klätterakademin). There, children train in a group with an instructor once a week throughout the entire term (from 10 years of age).

Did you know that you can use your wellness allowance for climbing?
We collaborate with several wellness providers, including ePassi, Wellnet, and Benefits.

You can easily download payment receipts for your previous purchases directly through our member system – perfect when you want to use your wellness allowance.

To climb the high rope walls at Klätterverket on your own, you need one of the following:

  1. Yellow Card – To climb on our auto-belays.
  2. Green Card – To belay other climbers on top-rope.
  3. Red Card – For lead climbing and belaying other climbers.

These cards are belay licenses for indoor climbing, issued by an instructor. They serve as proof that you have completed the required theoretical and practical tests for each card.

The cards are national and are valid at most climbing gyms in Sweden.

To climb on auto-belays, no card is required. However, there must always be someone with a Yellow Card present to hook in the climber and perform a partner check.

To climb on top-rope, no card is required to climb, but someone with a Green Card must belay. This means you can belay your friend, but they cannot belay you.

For lead climbing, a Red Card is required for both climbing and belaying.

Yes, provided that there are at least three people present during the session. This way, you as the Green Card holder can act as an extra belayer, meaning you hold the passive end of the rope at all times. This is the only way we allow someone without a Green Card to belay.

We strongly recommend having many years of climbing experience before attempting to teach someone on your own. If you have any doubts, please contact us, and we can help you arrange a course for your friend with our instructors.

Please note that we do not allow using Klätterverket’s facilities for your own paid courses in climbing, belaying techniques, or training without prior approval from Klätterverket.

Book yourself into one of our top-rope courses, where you’ll join other participants. When you do your assessment climb, you must have someone climbing with you. Often, you can complete the climb with a fellow course participant, but if not, we’ll make sure it’s arranged!

We have several auto-belays. These allow you to climb the rope walls without a climbing partner. Simply clip in, climb, and let go when you want to come down. Remember that a minimum of a Yellow Card is required to use the auto-belays.

Regular training clothes work perfectly. Comfortable, flexible clothing is best—something that allows you to move freely. Wear the same clothes you would for the gym or for running outside. Shorts, long pants, short sleeves, or long sleeves—all are fine.

Yes, we have large, spacious changing rooms for both women and men. Both changing rooms are equipped with lockers, showers, and a sauna. Feel free to bring your own padlock if you want to use the lockers. If you’re attending a course with us, you can borrow a padlock at the front desk with a deposit. Padlocks are also available for purchase.
